We put a
sporterized SKS and a Yugo / USA hybrid AK47 (AKM) next to
each other for
some head to head shots. Many people still get these two
confused all the time. Maybe these pictures will help.

These
two 7.62x39 rifles with USA made furniture stocks
open and folded. If you like the look, either of
these would be fine rifles

|
|
From
the side the SKS and AK47 30 round magazines look
about the same. The SKS magazine even looks like
it has a magazine release. However these are quite
difficult to remove usually.

|
|
The
two 30 round 7.62x39 box magazines look close. The
AKM removable 30 rd mag is much higher quality however.
Most 30 round aftermarket SKS mags fail to work
well under most conditions.

|
|
The
SKS modified with a polymer folding stock set made
in the USA and a scope mounted on the receiver cover.
The SKS is also modified with an extended 30 round
magazine. The AKM is a Yugo / USA hybrid made for
Century

|
The
action and front end of the AK47 (AKM) and SKS are
close but not the same.

|
|
The
charging handle on the SKS is a round knob, while
on the AK47 it's a flat piece of metal

|
|
The
AK47 safety is along side the receiver and also acts
as a cover to keep the action of the rifle covered.
TGH SKS safety is near the trigger and flips up and
in the way of the trigger when activated
