This is the hard to find operating instructions booklet for the MGD1 75 round drum magazine for the 7.62x39mm cartridge. This 75—round drum magazine, for all kinds of 7.62mm Cartridges Type 56, is used as the feeding device of Model 83D Rifle.
Capacity; 75rounds

2. OPERATION

2.1 How to load the drum magazine
To load, push the two catches over to open the lid(12), then turn clockwise the cartridge feed wheel(2) to make the cartridge push cr(3) in the inner—most position (if to load it fully) or to a proper position (if to load it partly), while pressing down the plunger until all the slots are loaded fully. There should   be no space left between the cartridge pusher and cartridges.After loading, close the lid, latch the two catches and wind up the coil spring (5) by the turning key(1) attached to the lid.

2.2 How to tip cartridges out of the drum magazine
If to empty a loaded drum magazine, push down the catches to open the lid and press the plunger, and then all the rounds in the drum magazine can be easily tipped out or taken outs

2.3 Stripping for clean
To clean the inside tarts of the drum magazine remove the cartridge feed wheel, the detent(8), detent spring(7) and the pintle(9). Now it is ready for clean.

Re—assembling follows the order reverse to the Stripping.

3. PRECAUTIONS

3.1 Note that there should be no odd bits of yarn, cloth and other foreign matters left in the drum magazine after cleaning.

3.2 During the stripping and cleaning, take care not to make the outer casing, slideway for cartridges, detent spinner, coil spring,

3.6 If a loaded drum magazine is not to be used in a certain period, release the coil spring in order to keep it from fatigue.

The main difference between Valmet's and other AK variants is the movement of the sights and stock configuration. The sight placement on AK's are with the rear sights on the distal end of the receiver and the front sight is on the barrel. The Valmet's places the rear sight on the proximal sight of the receiver cover and the front sight on the distal end of the gas tube. This gives a longer sight radius and aids in accuracy. The workmanship is good to very good. This rifle is chambered in 7.62x51mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm. Valmet from Finland.
