Since the 14th century, craftsmen in the town
of Suhl, Germany, deep in the Thuringen Forest,
have been known as the world’s finest
weapons makers. Suhl Arms Production factory
in the former East Germany, the USSR handed
over the factory to German Democratic Repuplic
(GDR), 1952 the government renamed it to "VEB
Fahrzeug- und Gerätewerk Simson Suhl".
Little by little the production of sporting
guns started again.. In 1898, the Merkel brothers
founded a factory in Suhl that was the first
to industrially manufacture over-and-under guns.
The Merkel factory grew rapidly, and in 1914
the production line introduced side-by-side
(SxS) shotguns. The reputation of Merkel guns
circulated quickly throughout Germany, and then
throughout the world.

Barnaul |
Barnaul Ammunitions technical
policy concerning manufacturing of cartridges
for hunting and sporting is based on several
principles. The first principle is the usage
of steel, lacquered cartridge case. Steel cartridge
case manufacturing technology is a much more
complicated technical process than metal and
brass. Functioning of steel, metal and brass
cases while shooting is rather identical at
the point of influence on weapon.
Superior
strength is the main advantage of steel case
cartridges over metal and brass cases. This
is why Barnaul cartridges occupy the leading
position in the world and CIS ammunition market.
The selling of cartridges was started by European
and US stores in 1996.The second principle
- different bullet types usage:
SP bullet
has got a weakened head part, because of the
hard deformation that it takes when it hits
a target, it then turns around and becomes
a high destructive power. FMJ and FMJ BT bullets
have a more defined and perfect ballistic shape
which provides for better close grouping characteristics
and effusive power that enables the hunting
of fur-bearing animals.
Third
principle: all Barnaul-made cartridges are
certified not only by Russia State Test Station
(STS), but also by the European Safety Demands
in Germany and Czech Certification Stations.
Today, European certificates are given for
the following cartridges: 7,62x39 SP, 7,62x39
FMJ, 7,62x51 M.308 Win SP, 7,62x51 M.308 Win
FMJ, 7,62x54R SP, 7,62x54R FMJ BT.
The
Barnaul Machine Plant JSC is one of
the leading producers of industrial
goods and ammunition in Russia. The
plant’s history goes far in the
past to the period of Alexander I.
The Emperor ordered the opening one
of the first cartridge plants in St-Petersburg
in 1869. During World War I the plant
supplied the Russian Army. The plant
operated out of St-Petersburg until
the Civil War when the plant moved
to the Moscow region. During World
War II under the threat of a Moscow
siege, by German Forces, the plant
was relocated to Barnaul, where the
production of various types of cartridges
began. Barnaul sent ammunition to the
Soviet Army a month later and the plant
produced almost 50% of the cartridges
used by the Soviet Army.
The
city, where the Barnaul Machine-Tool
Plant is located, is in an accessible
geographic region. Directional railways,
one of the main highways of the country,
and an international airport, surround
the plant. These various modes of transportation
allow for the successful transportation
of goods.
|
|
The
most substantial plant activity is the manufacturing
of sport-hunting cartridges for rifle and shotgun
cartridges. The company is currently one of
the largest suppliers of cartridges in Russia.
It also delivers cartridges regularly to
America, Europe, and Asia. |

Klimovsk |
In
July, 1936 according to Stalin's direct order
the construction of a strategically important
ammunition plant began. It was found within
the distance of 27 km (16,9 miles) from Moscow
to the south of Podolsk, not far from railway
station. On December 30, by the decision of
People's Armament Commissar of the USSR a newly
built plant got its number - 188. At first
the plant was refered to as Novopodolsky, and
in 1960 it was renamed to Klimovsk Punching
Plant (KShZ). So it is December 30, 1936 that
is traditionally considered the plant foundation
date. Its close neighbourhood to Moscow, favourable
climatic and geographic zones, highly professional
staff, considerable industrial resources -
all these factors serve today as a predetermination
of the defense enterprise higher investment
attraction. To the present day the plant is
considered a local economic mainstay and socially
important enterprise of the town of Klimovsk.
Our
legacy for the twenty first century
will rest on how well we lay the groundwork
today for creating a company that continues
to be responsive to military and civilian
customer needs and depends as much
on inventiveness and innovation as
it does on technology. We are striving
to meet this challenge, making the
products that meet the highest standards
of quality with unsurpassed fit, finish,
reliability and durability. Military
and Law enforcement professionals in
the USSR and today from the entire
world have provided assistance in developing
our product specifications in order
to meet the needs of today's safeguard
polices.
During all our success
production history we have been testing
our ammunition using thousand kinds of
different firearms. Our factory collection
of fire arms is one of the biggest in
the ex Soviet Union. This experience
has allowed KSPZ to develop the Jorge
9mm series pistols that was constructed
in close conjunction with technical experts
from the Russian Army and number
of law enforcement agencies - world wide.
We have spent a lot o time all over
the world to figure out what is most
needed. The result is a state of
the art product, designed for use in
modern military and police tactics.

Federal State
Unitary Enterprise Production Association - Vympel |
February
24th 1976 went down in history as a day of
founding of
a future plant "Vympel" which now
called Federal State Unitary Enterprise Production
Association "Vympel" (FSUE PA "VYMPEL").
First the
plant was designed as a strictly specialized
enterprise for 5,45 mm cartridge production
on state customer's orders.
The enterprise
turned out first products in 1982; at the beginning
of 1989 cartridge
output reached the designed capacity. In the
early nineties, in
spite of the depression of defence industry
and, as a result of it, difficult
financial and economic situation, the enterprise
could master and
carry out the production of several types of
military cartridgesincluding blank cartridge,
cartridge with steel core bullet model 1943, pistol
cartridge, cartridge with enhanced penetration
bullet.
The enterprise
is proud of its 5,45 mm cartridge with armour
piercing core
bullet. At present this cartridge is the most
powerful and effective one
among cartridges of this type, it has no analogues
in Russia and abroad.
This cartridge excels cartridge with enhanced
penetration bullet using by Russian armed forces
in 1,5 times.
In 2001 the
enterprise is going to put on foreign market
Remington and Parabellum
hunting cartridge. At present the Association
produces 18 kinds of military and sporting-hunting
cartridges.
In 2002 "Vympel" is
planning to put into production military
cartridge 5,56
mm in caliber for selling on foreign market.
Besides military cartridge production,
the Association mastered production of sporting-hunting
cartridges for
rifled weapons and also sporting-hunting
cartridges of different calibers and bullet
types for domestic and foreign markets.
In 1992 Vympel-produced
locks for garages came into the market, they
were original
in design and the plant took out a patent for
invention. In 1995 the
Association began to produce automobile glass "Triplex".
In mastering of
this production, testing laboratories, which
do not have analogues east of
the Urals, were organized and accredited by
Russian state standard. In 1997 section for
production of tubular electric heaters was
made.
At present the Association
intends to increase the production
of the whole range of hardware, products
for medical purpose, polythene film,
linoleum, putty, aeroionizers etc. "Vympel" is
the youngest and the most up-to date
enterprise among cartridge plants
in Russia, it is the only cartridge
plant in the Far East.
