MAK90 and BWK92 side by side

Had a chance to photograph two AK47s that are in unfired condition. One is the MAK-90 7.62x39 the other is BWK-92 in 5.56x45 (.223)  These two AK47s are quite similar and were both imported from China durring the Assault Weapons Ban. Because they were imported during the ban, they have no muzzle breaks (or threaded barrels), bayonet lugs or pistol grips. This Modification is where the M in MAK-90 comes from the 90 comes from the production date of 1990 the BWK-92 was imported in 1992

From a distance it's easy to see the difference in the magazines on these two MAK90s The curved 7.62x39 magazine much more bent than the slightly curved 5.56x45 magazine

Another forgotten round for the AK47 is the 12 gauge. And while there are a lot of options in shotgun rounds, we chose 00 buck which has about 11 lead balls a bit larger than the 7.62x39 (.30 cal AK47). While range is reduced the Saiga AK style shotguns offer a lot of stopping power

Each round has a different shape. The 7.62x39 has a tapered shape and when stacked side by side they form a curve. The 5.56x45 has a straight case, so it stacks fairly straight. The 5.45 is in between with a slight curve. Their magazines follow their shape as you can see

The two AK47s back to back. These MAK-90s are sometimes incorrectly called MAC-90s possibly because of the way MAC-10 is spelled ?

As rare as it is to find two AMK90 AK47s like these is such great condition, for them to have their manuals is even more uncommon

INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR BWK-92 SPORTER

Here are some scans of the MODEL MAK-90 and BWK-92 SPORTER .223 (5.56mm) instruction manual that came with the rifles in 1990, These are fairly hard to come by so we have scanned these AK47 manuals in and posted them for reference

520-722-6886 Russian made AK47 Varieties Russian made AK47 Varieties Valmet from Finland. Forged/milled receivers and barrels between 16" and 20" in lengths with varying barrel weights. The main difference between Valmet's and other AK variants is the movement of the sights and stock configuration. The sight placement on AK's are with the rear sights on the distal end of the receiver and the front sight is on the barrel. The Valmet's places the rear sight on the proximal sight of the receiver cover and the front sight on the distal end of the gas tube. This gives a longer sight radius and aids in accuracy. The workmanship is good to very good. This rifle is chambered in 7.62x51mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm. Valmet from Finland. Some versions fire the 7.62x51 NATO (.308 NATO) round. Longer barrel than MAK-90. The wood and workmanship of these rifles are almost the same as the Romanian but the most important variance is the metal thickness of the stamping. Other countries use the 1mm thickness the Yugoslavs used a 1.5mm thickness. This added thickness allows for more rigidity in the receiver while still allowing some flexing.
