Saiga
12 before and after Modification (12
gauge AK47)
Many
people ask what differences there are between an unmodified
Saiga 12 and one that has been modified by a gunsmith to
regain it's pistol grip and standard AK47 stock. Here are
two Saiga 12 gauge AK47 style shotguns side by side. The
one with the folding stock has been modified to have a
pistol grip and standard AK47 trigger.

The
modifications to the Saiga 12 require a few US made
parts to be used on the new shotgun to remain 922r
compliant. The US made magazine offers three US parts,
the pistol grip and trigger group use another 4 US
made parts, these pass the 922r test and a foreign
made stock can be used. This example uses a Romanian
wire side folder, US (Galil style) SAW grip, an AGP
US made magazine and a Tapco trigger group.

The
main modification is to remove the Saiga 12 trigger
group and move it forward. This can be done at home,
but a professional job by someone who's done it many
times will result in a better looking finished product.
The front ends can be modified, but it has not been
done to this Saiga12
